Cinema Fiasco: Konga

The only thing that excites Cinema Fiasco’s hosts more than a man in a gorilla suit is Michael Gough at his scenery-chewing best and, in KONGA, you get the best of both worlds. Lost in the jungles of Africa (after a hilariously staged plane crash), a mad scientist discovers a special growth serum produced by carnivorous plants. Back in London, he gives the potion to a chimpanzee that turns into a giant gorilla and goes on a murderous rampage. There’s a sexual jealousy subplot to add to the excitement and the special effects are particularly engaging. The sight of a ranting stuntman in gorilla drag, clutching a Barbie doll and stomping around a miniature cityscape, is one to be treasured forever.
