Fight Club + Fly, The

David Fincher’s visceral adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk’s anarchist novel was one of the most controversial and talked-about films of 1999. A depressed man (Edward Norton) who is discontented with his white-collar job and suffering from insomnia meets a strange salesman named Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt). He soon finds himself living in his squalid house after his perfect apartment is destroyed. The two bored men form an underground boxing club where they fight other men who are fed up with their mundane lives. But their perfect partnership frays when Marla (Helena Bonham Carter), a fellow support group crasher, attracts Tyler's attention.
David Cronenberg (Eastern Promises) combines his trademark affinity for gore and horror with strongly developed characters for a wildly imaginative, gut-wrenchingly scary, funny and totally original sci-fi classic. When brilliant but eccentric scientist Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum) completes his teleportation device, he decides to test its abilities on himself. Unbeknownst to him, a house fly slips in during the process, leading to a merger of man and insect. Initially, Brundle appears to have undergone a successful teleportation, but Brundle soon finds he is a changed man. As he becomes increasingly fly-like, Brundle's girlfriend (Geena Davis) is horrified as the person she once loved deteriorates into a monster.
