Twentieth Century Women

Acclaimed filmmaker Mike Mills (Beginners) directs a richly funny and heartfelt celebration of the complexities of women, family and time with the story of a determined single mother raising her adolescent son in 1970s Santa Barbara.

Dorothea Fields (Annette Bening) is being challenged by parenting her son Jamie at a time of momentous cultural change and rebellion, and decides to enlist two younger women to help in his upbringing: her lodger Abbie (Greta Gerwig), a free-spirited punk artist, and her teenage neighbour Julie (Elle Fanning). Together this somewhat eccentric makeshift family brings audiences a multi-layered, warm and open exploration of how the people who raise us end up reverberating throughout our whole lives, and how the times we grow up in have an indelible effect on us.
