Blinded by the Light

A heart-warming coming-of-age story of a teenager being helped through his formative years with the help of Bruce Springsteen, BLINDED BY THE LIGHT is the new film from Gurinder Chadha, writer and director of Bend It Like Beckham and Angus, Thong and Perfect Snogging.

Starring Viveik Kalra as Javed, a 16-year-old British Pakistani boy growing up in 1987 Thatcher’s England, the film sees his discovery of The Boss via a cassette tape – and through the tape, a self-discovery of who he is to his family and who he actually wants to be. Musical sequences, unfulfilled dreams of being a writer and girl troubles imbue the film with substance along with, of course, Springsteen’s songs. Based on a true story (of co-writer Sarfraz Manzoor), BLINDED BY THE LIGHT becomes a story of how family makes us, but our hopes and dreams are what can mark our path for the future – and both are equally as important.
