Bonnard, Pierre & Marthe

Celebrated filmmaker Martin Provost (Seraphine) directs a Cannes-selected 19th century love story between an aspiring French artist and his aristocratic wife.

From the moment that Pierre Bonnard (Vincent Macaigne) and Marthe de Meligny (Cecile de France) connect in 1893 France, their lives become intertwined over the ensuing five decades.

Though she appears in over a third of Bonnard’s work, Provost’s film recounts how Meligny is more than just a muse; together, the couple explored creative fulfillment, love and jealousies that challenged the standards of the time, as BONNARD, PIERRE & MARTHE interrogates the great mystery around their relationship.
