Born Free (1966)

Retro/Selective: 'Animal Values' themed introduction & screening.

BORN FREE (1966) tells the story of Elsa, an orphaned lion cub who is raised by avid animal activists Joy and George Adamson (played by fellow animal activists Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers) in the heartland of Kenya. Following the couple's resilient dedication to ensuring Elsa returns to the wild successfully, this is a film that truly summises the enduring legacy of people devoted to animal rights as well as the importance and sheer beauty of animals living their fullest life in their natural environs. A lion-fueled pre-show reel is in store for the screening!

Animals are not just our friends and playmates, they are also our teachers, confidants, guides and equals. Cinema's relationship with animals is a long and varied one and two very different films showcasing the majesty of beasts in all their glory are coming to the Nova!
