Cinema Fiasco: Octaman

Director: Harry Essex
Starring: Kerwin Matthews, Pier Angeli, Jeff Morrow

When researchers in Mexico collect some unusual baby octopus samples they find themselves terrorized by the hideous half man half octopus parent. Or more precisely trying not to split their sides laughing because in the pantheon of hilariously bad movie monsters Octaman is one of the best. It’s right up there with the vulture marionette from “The Giant Claw”. Designed by future Oscar-winner Rick Baker, the costume is certainly very silly but doesn’t receive much assist from the stuntman wearing it. When he’s not flopping his tentacles around trying to slap people to death, Octaman sits in a pond looking like someone having a sneaky piss in a swimming pool. An absolute riot!
