Set in a coastal town during the early 1980s, director Sam Mendes' EMPIRE OF LIGHT is a personal and poignant drama about the power of human connection during a turbulent time in England's history.

Stephen (Michael Ward) accepts a job as an usher at a picture palace, working alongside manager Hilary (Olivia Colman), projectionist Norman (Toby Jones) and fellow usher Neil (Tom Brooke). All labouring under the stern eye of General Manager Mr Ellis (Colin Firth), Hilary introduces Stephen to the secrets that the building, its staff and its patrons hold.
