Leaving Allen Street
Melbourne has a long and occasionally dark history of institutionalising people with disabilities. The residents of Allen Street have lived on a regulated schedule, sharing outdated facilities in a deadlocked institution for most of their lives. After years of dreaming of their own home in the community, the day has finally come.
LEAVING ALLEN STREET documents the drama, the humour and the joy as one of the last surviving institutions in Melbourne closes its doors and paves the way for new beginnings. This Melbourne Documentary Film Festival session will screen with open (on-screen) captions. Followed by 10-Minute Q&A.
