Louisa May Alcott’s coming-of-age tale of four young sisters determined to live life on their own terms has been put to film many times over the years, though none are quite like director Greta Gerwig’s (Lady Bird) acclaimed adaptation. Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn) shines as the inimitable Jo March alongside a stellar cast including Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Emma Watson, Laura Dern and Meryl Streep. Shot on location in Massachusetts – where Alcott grew up in real life – Gerwig’s film captures the authenticity and warmth of Alcott’s original story in a new vision that gives it bold modern flair.
