Marianne & Leonard: Words of Love
To celebrate Heide Museum of Modern Art's exhibition: Blue Over Time: Robert Owen – A Survey, we are screening* MARIANNE & LEONARD: WORDS OF LOVE with an introduction by the exhibition's curator.
Nick Broomfield (Whitney: Can I Be Me, Biggie + Tupac) returns with his elegiac style of filmmaking with another chapter of music drenched in history: Leonard Cohen’s life. MARIANNE + LEONARD: WORDS OF LOVE follows the maverick and his muse - Marianne Ihlen - beginning on the Greek Island of Hydra in 1960, when Cohen was an unknown writer and Marianna a young mother. Joining a community of expat creatives, Leonard and Marianne soon made musical history - but the parts you don’t know are captured here by Broomfield with never-before-seen footage. A portrait of a friendship that lasted fifty years until their deaths, Broomfield bids a sweet “so long” to them both.
