Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World

MOVIE EPIC! Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany lead Peter Weir's 19th century naval epic MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD.

In 1805, aboard the H.M.S. Surprise, the brash Captain Jack Aubrey (Crowe) and his trusted friend, the ship's scholarly surgeon, Stephen Maturin (Bettany), are ordered to hunt down and capture a powerful French vessel off the South American coast. Although Napoleon is winning the war, and the crew face an onslaught of obstacles, including within their own ranks, "Lucky Jack" is determined to complete his mission aboard HMS Surprise.

A realistic view of life on the sea in the 1880s, Weir's moving portrait of friendship was nominated for 10 Academy Awards and won two, including Best Cinematography.
