Max Richter's Sleep

The genre-defying Max Richter has composed for opera, ballet, stage and film, recorded eight solo albums, and reached over a billion streams of his music - but none of his projects have quite come close to matching the breadth and ambition of Sleep, an eight-hour composition designed to be listened to by a sleeping audience. Following Richter and his creative partner, artist and filmmaker Yulia Mahr, MAX RICHTER’S SLEEP sheds light on the creative process that went into crafting such an opus, and what goes into performing it live: filmmaker Natalie Johns follows the pair in the lead-up to an open-air performance of Sleep in LA. Weaving together footage from other cities and glimpses from Mahr’s personal archive, MAX RICHTER’S SLEEP is a beguiling look at an fascinating artist - and not just for those in the land of nod.
