Moonlight + My Own Private Idaho

DOUBLE BILL! Screening in time for Pride Month, two queer dramas that made their mark screen back-to-back.

Infamously involved in the La La Land Best Picture debacle at the Academy Awards, Barry Jenkins' MOONLIGHT is more importantly a landmark exploration of the African American queer experience. Starring Mahershala Ali in his first Oscar Winning role, Naomie Harris and Janelle Monae, the life of Chiron is told across three time periods as he grapples with his identity.

The movie that would put Drugstore Cowboy director Gus Van Sant on the map, MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO is a multi-award-winning drama of two hustlers (River Phoenix, Keanu Reeves) who embark on a journey of self-discovery, only to find themselves heading in very different directions. Seductive, expressionistic and featuring a charismatic turn by Udo Kier, the film has become a queer classic.
