The enchanting tale of a seemingly ordinary British housekeeper (Lesley Manville) whose dream to own a couture Christian Dior gown takes her on an extraordinary adventure to Paris, based on the novel by Paul Gallico.
Ada Harris (Manville) has spent her whole life working for others ever since the death of her husband in World War II. When informed by the British Government that she is owed a substantial war widow compensation, Ada decides to buy herself something she has only ever seen in the wardrobes of her employers - a dress from the house of Christian Dior. Travelling to Paris she soon learns that purchasing a couture item is vastly different from a dress off the rack, causing her to extend her stay.
