Sci-Fi FF: Last Starfighter, The

Directed by Nick Castle | USA

From 1984, arguably the greatest American summer movie season ever - the year of Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, The Karate Kid and Gremlins - comes a ‘Smalltown USA’ adventure classic that would become one of the most beloved VHS releases of all time.

THE LAST STARFIGHTER tells the story of arcade gamer Alex Rogan (Lance Guest), master of the Starfighter video game. But his joystick skills alert him to Centauri (Hollywood great Robert Preston) and Alex is soon transported to a distant planet where his eye for coin-operated space battles qualifies him to fly with the best starfighters in their world, in defence of their home planet.

Featuring spacecraft conjured from the mind of Hollywood production design legend, the late Ron Cobb, THE LAST STARFIGHTER is both a rousing ode to the early days of CGI effects wizardry and a timeless adventure for the whole family. Clearly an inspiration for crowd pleasers like Galaxy Quest and Guardians of the Galaxy, The Last Starfighter is a charming, thrilling, ‘feel good’ piece of ‘80s Hollywood entertainment for all ages.

The session will also include a pre-recorded introduction from director Nick Castle.
