Trouble with Being Born, The

Causing controversy at 2020's Melbourne International Film Festival and ultimately removed from the programme, Sandra Wollner's science fiction drama introduces us to 'Elli'; an android programmed with the memories of another person. Living in a remote modern home with her owner, Elli grows increasingly confused as the memories remind them of places and events that they never directly experienced. Suddenly removed from the care of it's owner, Elli is soon living the life of a person who died long ago complete with a fresh set of 'memories' - further complicating the robot's motivations and actions.
The story of a machine and the ghosts we all carry within us, Wollner's challenging yet profound film will linger in the memory long after the audience has experienced THE TROUBLE WITH BEING BORN.
