An Unfinished Film

Cannes Film Festival Official Selection. Lou Ye's AN UNFINSHED FILM combines fiction and documentary footage to create a singularly astounding film.

In January 2020 director Xiaorui (Xiaorui Mao) convinces his cast and crew to resume the shooting of a film halted ten years earlier. Close to finishing the remainder of the film, rumours regarding a quickly spreading illness begin to circulate. As the crew closely follow the news on their phones, Xiaorui wrestles with the decision to halt the filming once again. When the hotel the team is staying in is thrown into a quarantine enforced by security guards everyone is confined to hotel rooms. As all communication is reduced to phone screens, and Wuhan is locked down, the crew is reduced to communicating via video calls, whilst the quarantined main actor Jiang Cheng (Hao Qin) struggles to support his wife who is now locked-down with their month-old baby in Beijing.
