Cinema Fiasco: Monster Dog

Director: Claudio Fragasso
Starring: Alice Cooper, Victoria Vera

A werewolf movie made by the director of “Troll 2” and starring Alice Cooper sounds too good to be true but it exists and is mandatory viewing. “The hottest rock star in the world”, Vincent Raven, returns to his family home to film a music video and finds the countryside terrorized by a pack of wild dogs. Memories of his father (who might have been a werewolf) come back to haunt him and Vince begins to wonder if he hasn’t inherited the family curse. A gun-toting posse turns up to take care of the problem leading to exploding heads, mauled cameramen and rednecks catching on fire. Eventually Vince is attacked by a giant wolf puppet and a budget-conscious transformation takes place. With constant shots of a full moon and the fog machine working overtime this is a movie only too willing to embrace genre clichés, with the mutilated hermit, roaming the darkness and uttering terrifying prophecies, being especially noteworthy. Also featured is the video clip for Alice’s mega-hit “Identity Crisis”. You remember that one surely.
