Penguin Lessons, The

MATINEE FILM CLUB: Thursday April 10, 10.30am. Join your host, film critic Jan Epstein, for an advance screening of THE PENGUIN LESSONS with complimentary morning tea and post-movie chat.

Starring Oscar nominee Steve Coogan, THE PENGUIN LESSONS is inspired by the true story of a disillusioned Englishman who went to work in a school in Argentina.

The year is 1976. Tom (Coogan) lands in Buenos Aires to take up a teaching position at a prestigious English boarding school. Although the city is in the midst of political violence, the headmaster (Oscar nominee Jonathan Pryce) insists his school simply keep calm and carry on. But when a coup d’état shuts down the school and Tom heads to Uruguay to party, he spots a penguin drenched in oil from a spill. Against his better judgment, he rescues the bird and sneaks it back to Argentina, thus beginning a strange and beautiful friendship.
